Planting and growing tomatoes is actually easy. Almost anyone can do it. While there are different ways to do this there is one that is recommended for beginners. You can easily start all with purchasing a good tomato plant from a nursery.
Many experienced growers prefer to use tomato seeds although in this case there is a need for a lot of preparation and best growing conditions. If you don’t have such possibilities then simply go for the plants. You can buy a tomato plant for under 4 dollars.
The plants have to be planted in a sunny spot. There is a need for compost addition for the garden to be prepared. For any tomato to fully develop there is a need for much organic matter. Also, around 75 percent of the entire plant needs to be buried. Even a number of leaves can be put under ground.
Every single plant requires around 4 liters (1 gallon) of warm water. Water has to be added but only after 10 minutes since transplanting passed so that the plant can deal with shock. A tomato plant has to be planted around half a meter away from another plant.
After planting the tomatoes you need to keep watering them. Around half a liter of water that is warm has to be used for around one week. After 1 or 2 weeks since plantation there is a need to add some straw mulches, pine needles or even dry grass in order to properly control all weeds during dry weather.
If possible you need to make sure that your tomatoes receive up to 3 inches of water every single week. After 14 days there might be the need to use tomato cages. This is to be used for vine support.
While growing your tomatoes you need to also use fertilizer when needed. This will not be a problem as you can get all the needed recommendations from any gardening supplies shop. Around once per week you will need to shake the plants. This will happen when flowering begins.
After the tomatoes are planted you can expect to see fruits develop in 45 to 90 days. They are small and green at start. As time passes the color will change and size will be bigger. Be careful to not squeeze any tomato when you pick it so that the harvest can be perfect.
